Sectoral diagnosis of the workforce and action plan for the wood processing sector in Quebec (15 regions)

The Sectoral diagnosis of the workforce and action plan for the wood processing sector consisted of a survey of approximately 600 wood processing companies (pulp and paper, 1st, 2nd and 3rd wood processing) and more than 2,000 workers, including the holding of workshops in most regions of Quebec (15). This project made it possible to assess the situation, to compare region by region and to recommend courses of action for the sectors studied at the provincial and regional levels.

Based on information collected through surveys in all regions and the review of existing literature, the project consisted of the development of 15 well-documented regional diagnoses of the state of the wood processing industry in Quebec. This assessment consisted of a description of the establishments in terms of research and development, investments for modernization and diversification projects, workforce, training needs and supply, employment, analysis of the social, economic and technological environment, results of interviews conducted and established avenues of intervention. A region-by-region benchmarking, highlighting the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of each region, was at the heart of the project. The mandate ended with the production of 15 sectoral diagnoses combined with 15 strategic action plans to revive the sector.
