Wildlife Inventories for the Eastmain-Sarcelle-Rupert and La Romaine Hydroelectric Complexes

Groupe DDM and its Aboriginal division, the Consortium Otish, have carried out a number of wildlife inventories since 2002, on behalf of Hydro-Québec, as part of the Eastmain-Sarcelle-Rupert (James Bay) and the La Romaine (Côte-Nord) complex. Inventories were performed at the pre-project (baseline and impact assessment), construction (environmental study) and operation (environmental follow-up) phases. They involved specific methodologies that met the requirements of the Government departments concerned, as well as planning, logistics and fieldwork (on the ground and by helicopter) in isolated Northern environments. They were carried out by experienced staff members, who produced detailed study reports and maps in accordance with the highest quality standards.

The following inventories have been carried out to date:

  • Moose
  • Migratory and woodland caribou
  • Beaver
  • Small game
  • Waterfowl
  • Birds of prey
  • Short-eared owl, great grey owl and Bonaparte’s gull
  • Forest birds
  • Micromammals
